I get the feeling that this is just a setup for the next story, that this Zookeeper guy will not be a main character in this story because he will be going down shortly.
Somebody’s going to need a new pair of pants here in a minute.
It’s a recorder (alto, assuming the Zookeeper is a normal-sized adult human male)
I see a short future for him as a bad ass.
Three guesses as why one animal is (apparently) immune to this magic anyone?
Because that is our heroine’s faithful canine sidekick!
