She is a man – a woman. In 1980, Iceland elected the world’s first democratically elected female head of state – VigdĂs FinnbogadĂłttir. That was exactly 40 years ago, and they showed a program about it on TV a few days ago. One scene showed an interview with VigdĂs during her campaign. She was asked whether people should vote for her because she’s a woman, and she answered: “People shouldn’t vote for me because I’m a woman. They should vote for me because I’m a man.”
