My wife once did a big biological research project involving spiders. When she got to teaching, one of her students tried to scare her by putting spiders on her desk. She looked at them a little and then let them crawl on her arms. Poor guy was crushed; and she gained some respect.
But hey, you cynics out there, look at the wryly amused expression on the Wizard’s face. When was the last time you saw that on anybody’s face in this strip? I don’t recall the like, ever (and I’ve been reading this for decades).
I’m sure that pair (stepping outside of strip canon) started out reasonably well when young… as for today, consider their age (and their mileage).
It lasted Charles Darwin his whole life, and his wife, Emma, who was originally deeply religious, spent the last years of her life after Charles died defending his work against his religious detractors. Wives like THAT are hard to find!
