or perhaps he knows if Jon had a job it would be start of being left alone to sleep but since I don’t recall seeing anything about Jon’s work he won’t.
No, Wiz, perhaps Garfield just does not like Mondays. I have a steady job, and I do not like Mondays that much. I do not express much sadness though, because even though, I do not have the best job in the entire world, I actually like my job, and everyone I work with, co-workers and customers alike.
I have wondered the same thing. For Garfield, as for any other cat, Mondays are no different from another days of the week, except that their humans are more likely to be away from home. Wiz’s explanation makes some sense, except that we never see Jon going off to work, and it’s a little hard to imagine Garfield (at least the early Garfield) being so sentimental. A more cynical explanation (assuming that Jon actually does have a day job) is that it’s because when Jon is out of the house, Garfield has no one to demand food from, and so Garfield knows Monday is the first of a long stretch of days where he can’t bug Jon for food during the day.

Perhaps Wiz should ask Jim Davis himself.

I’ve always asked myself the same question. So nice of the wizard to come up with such a sweet answer.
