Interestingly, in the books, after the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman receive their symbolic brain and heart from the Wizard, they each become a little too proud, and tend to put on airs. They always had what they sought, but they used to have humility as well.
Pumpkinhead’s mind depended on the type and quality of pumpkin he chooses to replace the rotting one he has now. He cultivated his head replacements! (Not to be confused with the vengeance demon of the same name.)
