At an IBM research centre in the mid to late 1980s management tried to enforce their antiquated dress code on programmers. Within a week 80+% of them came to HR with their job offers from other companies. The dress code was relaxed and only 60% of the programmers left. Later, in 1992, many of them started working from home 3 – 4 days per week. HR knew to let them WFH.
