Dana started out in the strip as an overworked and under-appreciated assistant to Rita, and so she remains. But the powers came later. Early on she’d show feats of strength that would make a Festivus observer nervous. Before I joined the strip, John started to base Dana on Samantha from BEWITCHED… if Samantha were an underpaid office worker. Andromeda was added after I was on board, and this time John was thinking of I DREAM OF JEANNIE. I never liked that show. I kinda pushed back against her being as naive and ditzy as Jeannie.
