    At the long-failing company that laid me off after 33 years, the laid-off employees would wish the remaining workers luck and the survivors would be envious of the lucky ones laid off.

    Supersurfer: So what is a fatcat by your definition? Anyone making more than you? Remember, there is always someone poorer who thinks you are overpaid. Sounds like envy to me.

    @pschearer, a fatcat to me is someone who makes obsene millions in cash and stock options while the company is foundering. There are some who got where they are by hard work and sacrifice but too often they got where they are by sucking up and nepotism. The only people I envy are those who catch more fish than me.
