At a family-run 100 employee company I worked at, the VP (her only qualification being the owner’s daughter) drafted some of us to form a committee to find the source of the company gossip. After some months of sleuthing, we had to report to her that she and a couple of her best friends were the sources of most of the gossip.
Of course that report never left the room, and we were warned that keeping our jobs depended upon it not leaving that room. Later, she started a rumor that the chief gossipers were some people whom she didn’t like… Yeah, a company run in a high school “mean girls” manner was doomed…
