Don’t imagine that raincoat and rubber boots will decompose much faster though. See, that’s the problem, we all can point to other places that cause pollution while avoiding our own contribution.

    sigh

Latex balloons are a natural product made from the sap of the rubber tree and are completely biodegradable. They break down fully inside of 5 years, faster than many other natural products.

The danger posed by balloons is choking, both for kids and a specific sea turtle that eats jellyfish. Don’t give balloons to children under 3, and don’t release helium balloons. As long as you follow those basic rules, balloons are the most environmentally friendly toy available on the market since they promote rainforest growth (they’re made from the sap of the rubber tree which requires a rainforest environment to survive, which is better than cotton or hemp or whatever hippy material you want to name) and the end product decomposes naturally in landfills without taking up time or space. Even the additives like colors are generally harmless (they use pigments that are commonly used to make paints).
