There were many paintings of water lilies, as there were of many of Monet’s favorite subjects. Commonly and collectively known as the “series paintings.” I was lucky enough to have seen a major exhibition of Monet’s series paintings at the MFA in Boston roughly thirty years ago. He painted them in; a) different times of day, b) different seasons, c) different weather, & d) different light.

Considering that Monet was an impressionist, would he be painting water lilies that way?
