    An alkaloid in chocolate called, I believe, theobromine, is very bad for doggies. Less than 500 milligrams is the lethal dose for a small dog, as I remember. Cats are even less tolerant of the compound but cats, in general, have little or no sweet tooth and are usually not attracted to chocolates as dogs are.
