The parents were clearly impatient, and the male just pushed the young one off into space. He took off after and guided her for a few hours until she had confidence. .Earth forms are fractal upward and downward. How far upward and downward does Earth creature behavior extend?
I once read a science fiction story, I think “Staras Flonderans”, about some graceful interstellar beings watching us “flounder to the stars” in spaceships. So, we flounder through the skies in airplanes. Maybe not hang gliders, tho’.
