Berlin Olympics, 1936. I wanted no part of politics. And I wasn't in berlin to compete against any one athlete. The purpose of the Olympics, anyway, was to do your best. The struggles within yourself. The invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us... that's where it's at. The only victory that counts is the one over yourself. -Jesse Owens

Wonder if Hitler threw a plate of catsup coated schnitzel against the wall?

Hitler did not congratulate Owens. After being told he couldn’t congratulate only German winner, he congratulated none of them. Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals. President Roosevelt did not even send a telegram.Back in America he was forced to sit in the back of the bus and enter through the back door. He had to take the goods lift at the Waldorf Astoria hotel to attend a reception for returning athletes.

A good day to honor one man who gave one definition of independence & freedom by his actions done in the face of the enemy.
