You know there’s a rumbling in the land when even Ziggy is starting to wake up to the pandering. We probably deserve the clowns we elected, but can’t we have just one year when the government isn’t held hostage by partisan bickering? Why can’t we the people DEMAND that the folks we put in office to represent us follow OUR wishes, and not those of lobbyists? Why can’t WE refuse to pay the ones who don’t? Oh yeah, I forgot. Congress passed a law that says only Congress can pass any laws affecting congressional pay. The rest of the government can go down the tubes because they failed to fund it; they get paid. Health care is in limbo or worse. They have the best plan in the country, and we pay for it. And they get paid. They have an excellent retirement plan- that we finance- and on top of it, they get paid. What possible incentive do they have to make any significant changes to the program? This isn’t the government the founding fathers envisioned. They didn’t anticipate career politicians; they expected once and done, then back to real life. That’s something we should probably get back to.
