Adam@Home by Rob Harrell for September 10, 2009
Transcript:
Adam: I bet you're a great boss, if you run things at the bookstore anything like you run things around here. Laura: Are you saying I'm "bossy"? Adam: Well, "bossy" sounds so negative, let's say "dictatorial" instead. Laura: That sounds even more negative. Adam: At first glance, yes. Laura: Really? At what number "glance" does it become positive? Adam: Where's the calculator?

Could this be the beginning of the end of the @Home part of Adam@Home?
For those who don’t remember, this strip originated as “Adam”.

It does look like the @home is coming to an end. About time too, they’ve run it into the ground, what’s left to cover? I really liked this stip when it was just “Adam”. Getting him out of the house and back into the work force, so to speak, will make for fresher material.

I do. When I was still in private school.

If he does get a job I think it won’t be at his wife’s bookstore. He seems to be digging himself into a hole and he hasn’t even started working yet.

That’s because wives never take things the way you mean them. They always take things the way they can gain control over you. :-)

I think the word he should of used is “authoritative”, or a compliment on her “commanding presence”…
RinaFarina about 15 years ago
“authoritative” is a very good word, indeed. but most people can’t come out with a snappy comeback just like that! (that’s what my mother called them) and it loses its effect if you wake her up at at 3 a.m. saying “dear, dear, ahem… i did think of a really good word just now…”
But how on earth did he get into this conversation in the first place? oh, he dug a pit and then jumped in to it? no, i can’t think of a snappy comeback for that either…

Well, Laura takes what was MEANT be complimentary in the 1st panel in the worst way, but in the second panel Adam could HARDLY have picked a poorer term than “dictatorial.”

I thought he wanted the job…

Adam looks rather portly today.
