My dad loaded the back of his pickup with all the mortars one place in Illinois had, all illegal in Wisconsin at the time. Spent 20 minutes lighting them off in the driveway, and then the next 30 in the basement with the lights turned off as the cops pounded on the door for a solid 5 minutes. Despite my dad tossing the canisters in the garage, you could tell it was us with the ash and bits of paper everywhere and the lingering metallic sulfur scent of spent gunpowder. He never did get a ticket. Good times.

Our next-door neighbors have always had parties with illegal fireworks and gunfire, which would go on until 2 or 3 in the morning. They are truck farmers; they don’t have to getup and milk cows or go to the office and push papers. Drove the neighbors WILD.

The house across the street was recently purchased by a county police officer.

The Memorial Day party ended promptly at 11 PM.

Karma is lovely.

Fireworks are legal outside of the city limits here. We usually sit out on our front porch and watch all the people down in the valley with their individual displays, and then the big city party about 20 miles away as the crow flies. Absolutely beautiful.
