I told my secret to my daughter to ward off the fear and anxiety. As you just start to go down purposely scream the whole time “at” the coaster, mocking it, and yelling “Is this all you got” and such. She told me it worked.
Thirty years ago I went on the fastest thing they had at Kennywood in Pittsburgh with the boy. He loved it. I had reached the age where caution had replaced my cavalier worldview. I had him to protect. I also had glasses, keys, wallet, and pocket change to keep safe. We got through all the high drops and loops and spirals only to be thrust into a up and down wavy section of track they’d squeezed on before the return to the station. The wavy bit had the effect of zero gravity and it caused stuff to fly up – and off- of people. We were only a few seats from the front of the coaster, so we were pelted with only a few bits of change (the quarters hurt), but I ducked a pen that whizzed by me at whatever speed the thing had reached.
It seems they’ve torn it down and replaced it with something more threatening. I’ve become too fused together for any of that damage now.
Back when I was a teen, my family went to a regional amusement park. We had talked my mom to go on a then new roller coaster. She gripped the safety bar tighter than Adam and shouted “I want my mommy!” for half of the ride. To my knowledge, that was the last roller coaster she ever went on.
I never scream – I am too terrorized – then again have not been on anything that would scare me – which is just about every ride there is – since my teens. If it scares me – I don’t need it.

Fear makes you strong and leaves you weak. Never let your girlfriend grab you by the neck when she’s scared.

Good idea picking the front which usually has the least time of downhill speed.

If you are very tense and anxious, it doesn’t take much to set you off.
