    A Not-So-Splenda-d Experience

I used to intern for a magazine that focused on food, wine, and events in a small local area.

The editor-in-chief would send me out to get his coffee or lunch on a regular basis. Because the magazine covered the neighborhood and most of the restaurants he frequented, they would all know his order and rush to get it for me.

“You’re here for Bobby’s order? Let me get it for you! Can I get you anything, too? Coffee, dessert?”

At first, I declined because I didn’t want to take advantage of my position at the magazine, but eventually, I figured, why not take what was so generously and frequently offered?

One day, I was picking up Bobby’s usual order from a coffee shop — a large coffee with milk and seven Splendas. That’s right — seven Splenda packets, no more and no less. This was a mom-and-pop place where they added the cream, sugar, etc., for you.

They offered me a drink, as well, and I asked for a small drip coffee since that didn’t seem like a big request.

I got back to the office, passed Bobby his large cup of sugary sludge, and sat down to do my marketing duties.

I took a sip of my small coffee and nearly gagged.

They had also added seven Splendas to my small coffee! I never took them up on their offer again, partly because I didn’t want to seem rude after the Splenda incident, and partly because that taste haunted me for a long time.

He should ask for 60/40 split of gross revenue. Adam is not very likely to make a profit

He’s going into direct competition with the very coffee shop that lets him do his writing and drinking there?

Sample bags are usually only 1/2 to 1lb baggies, so he could just put them in a chest freezer. I hope he researches what the prime roasting profile should be for each region! Nah, he’ll just dump ’em all in at one time. gak.
