Sounds like my Mom…. no matter how sick I was, she always said “Go to school and you’ll feel better.”

She believed fervently in education. And that children were natural-born malingerers.

For those of us who are a little older, there was a time when the only thing that would keep you from school was “having something.” The something had to be pretty obvious and could be generally be identified by someone without a medical background, e.g. mothers. “Not feeling good” didn’t make the cut.

Agnes, Grandma has already been through this with either your dad or your mum (and probably learnt the hard way from her own mum).

I used to cry and take forever getting ready until my aunt (who raised me) said fine stay home but stay in your room. Only worked once or twice per school year.

Just this morning, I had to listen to my neighbor’s kid complain about school. His older sister said that he doesn’t like school because it’s too long. The kid is only in Kindergarten! Meanwhile this is the kid who has all sorts of energy at home, causing trouble everywhere.

Hard to believe Agnes would ever have problems controlling her lips. -She does so well, normally.

I never see Agnes open her mouth before. And she thinks she is sick too.

I quickly learned that staying home wasn’t fun. In my house, if you were too sick to go to school, you were too sick to (fill in the blank).

I saved mine and used them like vacation days. LOL. Used to take the week before finals off every year. It’s a wonder no one at school ever caught on.
