Whole grain sugar. Like chocolate is a salad substitute because it grows on a plant. I love it when people are creative enough to make do with what they’ve got.
When I discovered the Weight-Watchers Points-Plus Value® for a loaf of whole-grain bread versus regular was the difference between 41 and 43, I decided it wasn’t worth trying to choke down that nasty-stuff. But then I hear there are people who like brown and crunchy. No accounting for tastes.

If you don’t have maple, definitely brown sugar. It’s stickier than powdered when it melts.
