HE doesn’t always stop us, usually we stop ourselves.

Longevity was built into Edgar Rice Burroughs’ stories. John Carter had no idea of how old he was or where he came from. Barsoomians (Martians) were hatched fully grown and lived without change some 1,000 Barsoomian years. Carson Napier on Amtor/Cosoom (Venus) was checked by Amtorian physicians and discovered to have not had his childhood immunizations; they gave them to him so he woulsn’t live a short three or four hundred Venusian/Amtorian/Cosoomian years — cut down in his prime.

And the unlucky few have asteroids land on them.

I remember reading a story a few years back about some guy from Australia who narrowly missed twice being struck by meteors. His comment (paraphrased) — “It’s getting awfully hard to find guys who want to play golf with me.”

Shouldn’t they have this conversation in reverse roles? Agnes is the idealist dreamer Who is always coming up with these far-fetched ideas and Trout is the practical realist who pulls her back to the ground.

Haven’t they ever heard of Methusela, Noah, et al? The Bible is just filled with lots of wonderous “facts” such as people living over 900 years.
