The stories a friend told us – she used to play a Klingon on the “Highlander”-Fan-Trek-series. Others thought they actually were Klingons, Vulcans etc.
Don’t know much about Star Trek and don’t want to. I have a grandson who is totally into it. Listening to him is more than I want to hear about…….but, being the good grandmother….
“Gatekeepers” like that are the bane of every fandom everywhere. They seem to believe that they, and they ALONE, have the right and duty to decide who gets to be a fan and enjoy the show/game/movie/books/whatever.
I’ve been dumped on by gatekeepers for Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings books, vidoe games in general, and a host of others. I have reached a point where I no longer have to ignore them, I can be condescending and point out that I was a fan before they were even born!
Because nothing you do or say will ever convince them that they are wrong – and rude – and usually misogynists.
I’m a huge Star Trek/SF&F/LotR fan/nerd, but I HOPE I’m not anything like those types of fen… I’m still catching up on past months and I don’t know if comments made “in the past” ever get seen, but Amanda I continue to be so impressed not only with your art (one can see the wind/force in the penultimate panel!) but your words – Granular Minutiae of the Tertiary Character -brilliant! (that’s also a sequel to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, right?) :)

Some “Fans” are so annoying that the only right thing to do is avoid them. And this happens in every fandom

The Trekies are going even more insane than they thought they were.

Good one Amanda. What the heck is a casual watcher of a TV series suppose to know about all the MINUTIAE. I hate it when that happens :-)
