I only loaned my class notes to university friends who let me know they would not be at the class for a specific reason (didn’t get up in time, too hung over, didn’t want to come to class; not my problem. Get them elsewhere) . Then I would just give them a photocopy of my notes.

Had a classmate who took a class and instructor the semester after I’d had that class and semester. Classmate asked me to show him my term paper, which had gotten a very good grade, “to know what the instructor expected”.

A couple weeks later I found myself summoned to the Dean’s Office. Dean wanted to know if I was selling term papers. Turned out, unknown to me, my classmate had submitted my paper as his own… assumed the instructor would not recognize it… when caught, he claimed he bought it from me…

Fortunately I had a good reputation while my classmate had a poor reputation. Dean believed me and put that classmate on suspension. But I learned a lesson about being more careful about who and how I try to help.

Related, but not school related. Reminds me of a guy at my first base, RAF Upper Heyford, that proclaimed he quit smoking. However, for nearly a week, he kept bumming cigarettes from other airmen. By the end of about a week they realized he hadn’t actually quit smoking, but buying cigarettes. That’s when they decided to help him quit by not giving him anymore cigarettes.
