I have only been commenting since tthe first time I did it here on Annie. . That was only about a month ago, when I got curious. Now i’ve become somewhat addicted to doing it. My problem is speed. Eveybody else has broadband, While they go click-click, click-click jumping from strip to strip, I’m going click…….. Click………..click,……. Because I got a dinosaur dial-up. It’s kinds like the difference between e-mail and snail-mail.
Today, I get a sense that writer Jay Maeder has taken his finger of the forward button, the story isn’t going much beyond what we have already seen. An atmosphere of compessing inevitability of the end is settling in.
This strip must have been completed several weeks ago and Maeder either now started making some adjustments on retirement or is waiting for ”Dick Locher” to do so in December before taking over the WRITING of Dick Tracy.
Having come ‘paper thin’ close to cancelling Tracy at end 2008 TMS may have Maeder there crafting ideas for some new stories ( ‘QUALITY’ is desperately needed) The strip has been run (not into, but) effectively underground by an Artist who has never been a Writer
The strip is not making money due in part to lack of “KNOW HOW” !
Dick Tracy may well follow Annie come year end, unless - TMS has more testicular fortitude than I give them credit for.
Dick Tracy has the potential to pay it’s way but has been mismanaged and suffers from (political) over censorship,.
Time to take off the stifling hand cuffs or like Annie say goodbye.
GM, LoneWolf, Leaky, Marg(where ever you are), MLady, VBill, LordD, WW, S Slim and everyone.
Actually, I quit reading DT a long time ago. I just thought it got too boring to maintain my interest. About that time I rediscovered Annie. Now they’re taking Annie away from me. At least we still have One Big Happy, Gasoline Alley, Calvin and Hobbes, Mutt & Jeff, and Garfield.
Good mornin’ all you groupies/sockies/Annie fans! It’s been two nights in a row that I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I’ll be here all day. Try the veal
LS, love your new avatar…….you found a good one.
davidf42, I like your protest!
Shirttail, where is that beautiful canyon?
Lonewolf, you manage to find the best wolves!
Meeting somewhere else will really be hard after Annie!
No wonder the Tribune is barely hanging on. If Annie goes, the paper itself won’t be far behind. I don’t know whether her reruns would work the way “Peanuts” does or not. But it would be worth a try rather than deep six her all together.

If you want archive editions I would strongly suggest you pick up the five volumes available from IDW. Takes the strip from the very beginning in 1924. Sundays in color. Excellent reproduction and available on the Amazon web site. Do yourself a favor. I did and still want more!
Has anyone heard how much pressure the Tribune is getting in phone calls and e-mails about the way they are going to end “Annie”? Make them see that if the strip must end at least give us a happy ending. Is that asking too much?
Here we go: topo maps, U.S. Dept. Interior Geological Survey. Duncan Peak Quadrangle. California_Placer County. 7.5 minute series (topographic). Lower left quarter of map.
Or…Western United States 1:250,000 series. Screwauger
Canyon is just below the word TAHOE in Tahoe National Forest.
I went in there in late June with a 98 lb pack. That camp was thw first of two. There was still some snow on Duncan Peak and cold air came down the canyon at night.
I explored downstream , moved down into the trees where the air was dispersed by the trees. The water was so cold it made a persons teeth ache and I couldn’t keep my hand in it for very long before it hurt.
I was there two weeks. Never saw or heard anybody the whole time. Couple of times a small private plane flew over high up. The best trout I ever ate came out of that stream, minutes from water to frying pan…….
I’d love to be there again. Peace and solitude. Fortunately, I get along good with Me, so I never get lonely.
I dug out a bunch of topo maps to get the directions/ Forest Hill Divide road to shortly beyond Duncan Peak .
.Then good luck . All the canyons up there are deep and steep and lovely.
P.S. My legs gave out before I reached bottom. Had to split my load and take half down, rest a while, then go up and get the rest. I found a small patch of sand for my sleeping bag, made a cup of instant’ (low maintenance) coffee and was in my sleeping bag before dark. No shelter up to break the down-canyon night flow of COLD air.
It was two weeks of adventure and pleasure! :-))))))
Shirttail………….thanks for your information! You paint quite a picture about your time up in the canyon! Never been up to Place County, but know the area. We spent about 30 summers camping in a lesser known area of Kings Canyon, down in the actual canyon. Our kids grew up with an appreciation of the back country and mother nature.
We are up in Helena MT now, in an isolated area where you can’t see another house. Our idea of heaven!
I didn’t tell half the story MontanaLady. Lord, I wish I had haif… wish I had a quarter of the energy I had then. I was only a youngster of 46 when I went to Screwauger.
