“A couple of sixties kids raising a teenage son in a complicated modern world.”Forever young. We were ’60s kids but our teenage son is well into his forties.

Doubt if many 60s kids have 20 year old children.

You’d be surprised. What with extended childhood, delayed parenthood and second marriages, it’s not that uncommon. Go to an open house at a school sometime. It’s not always clear who’s a dad, and who’s a granddad.

The “About Arlo and Janis” is a bit dated. Gene isn’t a teenager anymore: he’s in his last year of college which should make him 22…

That said, the strip premiered in ‘85, and Gene was 8 or so at the time. In 25 years, he’s aged 14 years, so life passes a little slower in the Arlo universe. Arlo and Janis supposedly met in college in ’73

Little Muttley does that to me too. He knows I’ll join him. He’s got a perfect record so far.

I had a dog who would do that over the septic tank, then come in straight to the sink for a bath.

I prefer to think of it like all of the aging problems in the comics are because of John Coffee from “The Green Mile”. He infected Walt Wallet with life in 1936, and (now 115-year-old) “Uncle Walt” was the Patient X with the immortality virus which has spread throughout the comic strip universe. In this theory, Ludwig is like Mister Jingles.

Sure, rubbing around in the dirt for no reason is beneath an adult male, but just watch him sliding into a base to avoid a tag in softball—and throwing out his back.
