Transcript:
Arlo: Where are the women?
Gene: Out walking!
Gene: I heard Mom asking some heavy questions! Mary Lou can be sensitive about the past!
Arlo: Oh, no!
Arlo: Things were going so well! Now...shh! Here they come!
GoComics has an Arlo & Janis Archive going back to 1995. Earlier Gene / Mary Lou sequences started on:June 9, 1997; Aug 11, 2008; May 28 & Aug 4, 2009; June 17, Aug 2, Sept 10, 2010; and many more in 2011.I know of one more on page 86 of “Beaucoup Arlo & Janis”
I had second thought about Janis asking about details regarding Mary Lou and the one that went away. I believe we the earliest we’ve seen A & J was when they were in college with little info about them before that. I wonder if Janis might have had to make a tough choice about her future way back in the day, or at least had to consider it.
We’ll never know what the Ladies (C’mon Arlo!) talked about when they were out there alone, will we?
i think MaryLou is aware of how lucky she is to have a guy like Gene who loves her and her daughter and is concerned about their future not her past and a family that has come to accept her and her child into it. after all Gene will be raising another man’s child as his own.

ML is the daughter Janis always wanted. Janis is the mother ML needed when she was growing up.
