Janis: Hello! Hello!
Janis: I'msorryyou'vegotthewrongnumber!
Arlo: Is anything scarier than when the phone plays "Purple Rain" at 3 o'clock in the morning?
There is nothing that will happen at 3 AM that I can do anything about. Leave a message and I’ll call you after I’ve had my coffee. The only time we’ve had a phone in our bedroom was for the two week period before each of our local grandchildren was born.
Great strip. We got a middle of the night call exactly one year ago from the local PD; our daughter had been involved in a serious car crash. She’s back to health, but now every time the phone rings after 10PM, my wife and I both immediately go into “oh sh#t” mode.
You want to know what’s scarier than hearing “Purple Rain” at 3:00 AM?Hearing “Purple Rain” used to mean you were at a wild party. Now it has been reduced to a ring tone.
I got a buzz at 3 this morning, it was the weather service telling me we were under a winter storm warning tomorrow, as I sit on my deck in shorts in the sun and 59 degrees…
My smartphone stays powered off more than it’s on. I turn it on when I need to use it, cut it off when I’m done. That way I don’t have to charge the blame thing every day.
How about Ozzy screaming “ALL ABOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD, HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!” from “Crazy Train”? True: I used to work in a cube farm where a woman on the other side used to leave her phone turned up on her desk all day long. She was frequently away from her desk; so her phone would ring and play some annoying ringtone, which would repeat and repeat and repeat until her voice mail kicked in. I was about to ask my boss what he recommended I do about her, until I heard that very same Ozzy scream come through his closed door, loud and clear.
I have “Fire” from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown" on my phone. Subversive that I am, I occasionally consider putting it on my daughter’s phone as my personal ringtone (she goes to a parochial school). I always wanted to see what happens to the nuns when the phone in her backpack screams out, “I AM THE GOD OF HELL FIRE!!!”
When Domino’s pizza first came to this area they liked telephone numbers that ended in 3030 as they promised delivery in 30 min then and they have a number of stores in the general area that ends same. Our phone number also ends in 3030. I don’t know how late at night Domino’s is open, but we get calls for them at 4 am. People who call them seem to be many times, drunk. The same person will call over and over. When we give up and pick up the phone (the answering machine answers so we don’t have to deal with everyone) and tell them, they will still call. At various times my dad and husband’s dad and later his mom, were in the hospital, eventually dying there. Calls at 3 am (or actually any time, but especially late at night) made us sit bolt upright in bed in fear of bad news. And that phone, dating back to th 1980’s, just rings.

Put the phone on Do Not Disturb when you go to bed. You can set exceptions, such as family, that are allowed to ring through.

A mother never turns off her phone unless the children are safe at home with her.

Turn the stupid phone OFF and get some sleep. The other person can leave a message. Period.
Emergency? Then the police can come to the door. What did people do before telephones?
Think about it. We are SLAVES to our stupid phones. Don’t be. Answer the phone when you want to.

If I got a wrong number at 3 a.m. I wouldn’t say “sorry”. They should be apologizing to Janis.
