Arlo probably has learned that leaving a “mess” in the kitchen causes night headaches. Therefore, he cleans up his “messes.” HIS messes. All else is ceded to The Wife.

My kids are exactly the same way. Of course they’re teens and a preteen so it comes with the territory.
