Cats imagine themselves to be about five times bigger than they are. I’ve seen a mama cat jump in the middle of a much bigger tomcat and send him flying over the fence without touching it before the patches of his fur even hit the ground.
I remember once when a ringtail was sitting about 3 feet outside of our chain-link cat run. Our big male cat, 24#, 12" tall at the shoulder, was throwing a fit calwing at fence, hissing, growling, hackles raised. The ringtail just sat there watching as if he were thinking, “Yeah, c’mon housepet, I’ll eat you for lunch”.
