I absolutely LOVE that song! It hits the mark so well in describing the tragedy of a person with closed emotions. Dance like no one’s watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like it’s never going to hurt.
Having said that, I know I’m not totally there yet, either.
I don’t think there was any illusion that Midler wrote this. She did, however, sing it at the end of The Rose, and recorded it. It might be the best movie song not to get an Oscar Nomination. Midler did, however, get an acting nomination
The Movie, The Rose, was loosely based on the life & death of Janis Joplin.
They had to take out any actual Reference to Joplin because her Family refused to allow them to use the Real Janis Joplin’s life story. So, they changed Just Enough to stave off lawsuits.

An underrated movie.

Don’t give Bette Midler credit for that song…it was written by Amanda McBroom, a talented singer and songwriter in her own right.

Simply saying if you don’t do anything it is a loss for you. And for others.
