I never understood why parents are like this over a kids room. Simple solution, shut the door and keep it shut then you don’t have to look at the mess or in some cases smell the funk. It’s their room, they will either learn to clean it or learn why none of their friends want to come over. Either way they learn. In a teens world, one embarrassing incident over a messed up room will change their attitude far faster than a parent griping.
As for the rest of the house, yep clean up your crap, but their room, let them be.
