As Ben Franklin observed in his “Poor Richard’s Almanack”: “A Penny sav’d is Twopence clear, A Pin a day is a Groat a Year.”

I read an article about a man whose hobby was finding the pennies and nickels that other people dropped and were too lazy to pick up. He’d just walk down the street or in the mall and find all sorts of coins. He made quite a bit of money each year just from pennies, nickels, and the occasional quarter.

In one of the “Little House on the Prairie” books, there is a description of a Christmas celebration. Each of the girls received a new tin cup, 2 sticks of peppermint candy, a small heart shaped cake and… a penny! And they were thrilled to get that penny.

So, really, who are the ones out of touch?
