That’s why the dead are referred to as “the late”, B.C.

When nobody depends on you, you can be as late as you want.

if you show up late and no one cares your job may be gone soon

…….until they found out you were dead!!!!

Being late is telling people that they don’t matter to you.

Or love you, depending on who you are.

Not sure exactly why this is supposed to be funny, or even if it is trying to be funny.
