Friends like Shelley Winters and Tim Jones would 100% help to hide criminal evidence, they would just do it badly. Shelley would suffer a guilt induced meltdown and fall slowly sideways while catastrophising, while Tim would get halfway through devising a foolproof body-hiding mechanism, then get distracted and leave the whole shebang in the garage for a year.
I’m pretty sure Shelley has helped Amy hide crime evidence, though she’s too high-strung to be good at it. However Shelley is in London these days, or flying around the world somewhere in pursuit of her career as a successful writer. Tim probably would, too, and his wife (Riley, Ryan’s little sister) has reverse-exiled him back to Tackleford after he (actually their daughter Scout — long story) blew up their house in Wales, but his “solutions” have a notable history of just making the situation worse. (See also: Mr. Knott’s lost eye.)
This strip follows on from New Bobbins strips where Amy was complaining about all of her friends — particularly Shelley — having gone away and left her home alone with an infant. Ryan’s solution was to invite Mrs. Lord (his “work girlfriend”, as Amy describes her) and her husband, the mysterious “Ken”, over for dinner, which is what Amy’s talking about in the bottom row.
As originally posted, this strip was just the bottom row. The top row was added to fill out the page for publication. I’m not sure why John A. didn’t just use the next Bobbins strip instead, which continues this conversation, as Amy loads Walt (you can see Shauna carrying him in his car seat here) into her car, and gives Shauna advice about friends and growing up. Shauna determines that she’s going to keep ALL of her friends. Spoiler: She won’t.
The Bobbins strips will continue with the dinner date, and we’ll meet Ken Lord, who is much older than Abigail Lord — like, 30 years or so. Their love affair started when he was her professor at university. Amy and Ken will hit it off, Amy being a big fan of Ken’s stories about his younger days, and leave Ryan and Abi to hang out and smoke and drink garage wine.
Amy was 17 at the beginning of Bobbins — she’s several years younger than the other first-generation Bobbins characters — so she was born around 1980. If she fought in the Cabbage Patch Wars, it was on the other side.

There are friends and there are friends who help you bury the bodies.

Amy is being quite unfair here.

Heh, that does seem like it’d be accurate for her.

Amy needs to hide crime evidence? Tell me more.

I remember the Cabbage Patch Kid riots. It was a curious case of mass hysteria.
