Baldo by Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos for August 24, 2010
August 23, 2010
August 25, 2010
Transcript:
Gracie: When I grow up, I want to be a role model and show kids how I overcame obstacles to achieve success! Baldo: You? Talk to kids about overcoming obstacles? Baldo: If you ask me... Baldo: That's something you'll never do!
I don’t get it. What is Baldo trying to say? Anyone?
Although most of the tiny amount of Spanish I know comes from comparing the English and Spanish Baldo strips every day for years, the joke doesn’t seem any better in Spanish.
Umm perhaps it’s irony that Baldo is challenging her? Whatever it is, it’s a lame joke. I was wondering what Carlos has in store for Hispanic Month. Last year was great with all the crossovers. I hope there’s more Yenny or even a Zits collaboration.
The greatest obstacle to achieving ones goals is usually the negative comments of friend and loved ones. A thoughtless comment can go a long way to kill a dream.

Ok, I was left scratching my head, too.
Maybe it has to do w/the fact that she’s “vertically challenged” & it’s only a literal reference to that.
Not sure.

He’s trying say she hasn’t had to overcome many obstacles, compared to the previous generation.

It sounds like he thinks she won’t have any obstacles.

Or is Baldo saying, that once she is successful, she will be ‘too successful’ to talk to children.

Thanks for the various idea, folks. Yes, Carlos missed the mark.
