Homework almost never makes you smarter. Nearly all the research shows that kids without homework do at least as well and usually better than kids who have it (regardless of amount). This is especially true for younger kids, but even with older kids, it only bears fruit when the work is something like a special project that is too big to do in class. Oh, and the kids without are less stressed, less rude, and have time for part time jobs. But we won’t get rid of it because somehow having busywork makes us feel like we’re actually doing something.
