It is a shame to confuse or combine the American version of Halloween (scary/gruesome stuff, death is scary) with ‘Day of there Dead’ (honouring of ancestors, memento mori, death is part of life, the concept of ‘I was once like you, one day, you will be like me’).
All Souls Day – Día de Muertos ( Nov. 2 ) is traditionally celebrated here, in Ecuador, by families visiting the graves of their departed loved ones – bringing flowers and often cleaning and repainting the headstones.
Neither the U.S. Halloween night, nor the Mexican version of Día de los Muertos has really caught on, down here. Although, Halloween’s costumed “trick or treating” is gradually creeping in with youngsters, in some areas, as are Halloween parties among young adults.

I remember seeing the black sponge bob valentines that the Chinese printer messed up sold at Walmart
