Hey, I fully plan on living forever and so far I’m doing a (insert word here for what the fish said when it swam into the concrete wall)-fine job so far!
While continued life is great if you have continued good health, there comes a time when death seems preferable to a continued life of health problems. I had a client who turned 100 who told me her mother had lived to be 105. She had never married and had no close living relatives. I commented that perhaps she would make it to 105, too, and her comment back to me was “Oh, I hope not.” At that point she was bundled up in a shawl sitting in her wheel chair at a care center, where she spent most of her time, alone and mostly forgotten. She made it another 2 1/2/ years. I won’t bore you with more examples. Good health and long life? Bring it on. Pain, immobility and long life? Torture.
Just the other day, I was lamenting that my old dad wasn’t around to see this-and-such, but then I realized that if he were alive he would be almost 108 years old and probably a doddering old vegetable. I’m glad he never became such.

This July will be the eleventh year since my Dad passed. He passed on the very first day of my retirement.

Mine will be 88 next month, currently recovering from covid. It’s looking pretty good for him.

Relax, kid- we’re in the comics. As long as you don’t grow up, I don’t get older.

What’s with panel 3? Everything’s different from the other panels, including the box of crayons going missing.

Cosette:
You will live
Papa, you’re going to live
It’s too soon, too soon to say goodbye!
Jean Valjean:
Yes, Cosette, forbid me now to die
I’ll obey
I will try
