It usually takes me the entire month to decorate, so I’m starting today.

I think it’s just a matter of family tradition. Our official start for the Christmas season was always marked by the arrival of Santa Claus at the end of the Macy’s Parade, so we would start decorating the day after Thanksgiving.

Husband bought new lights this year for a new arrangement of lights – and had to buy a new extension cord also. Normally put the lights up in earlier in November and don’t turn them on until December (in normal years we often go away the first week in December to Colonial Williamsburg for their Grand Illumination so don’t want the lights on when away for several days).

This year we not put up the lights yet. He has the mini lights that can be set to go in different sequences for the holly tree on one end and the spruce on the other. Two of the the three bushes in the middle will get steady color lights. (Other bush he is afraid to light as it is dying.) Also put battery candles in the windows.

We (I) do most of our decorating inside the house – 4 Christmas trees plus a small beaded tree I made. At the top of the stairs there is a village of small teddy bear figures/toys that was originally for Christmas – but more recently it gets changed monthly so there is a Thanksgiving setup, Easter setup, etc. Also other decorations around the first floor of the house.
