Out of curiosity I just went out and read a bit about this “controversy” regarding Vermeer’s work. It was interesting and I can see the case. However, I would say that even if he was using a camera obscura, A) he apparently was about 100 years ahead of his time when others did it, making Scott derivative in his approach and B) he was able to replicate things like “soft focus” and various forms of color blending effects, which Scott seems barely able to do with gray scale using Adobe Illustrator – leading to the conclusion that Scott may be an “artist” but he ain’t no Vermeer.

I used to say, ’I’m not lazy, I’m just conserving energy’. My new thing though is, ’I’m not lazy, I’m just leaving a minimal carbon footprint’.

Mr. Meyer’s work has actually stood up to the test of time quite well. I mean, the above piece is already seven years old.

No, that was Johannes’ younger brother, Smitty Vermeer.
