To each his own, I guess. LOTR was very popular when I was in high school, but I didn’t read it then. Didn’t really read it until I was past 30. It’s not a child’s story; very adult. And one is still mostly a child when one is in high school; and probably some years later. It drags in places. but some places it takes you by the neck and shakes you.
The books were good like Harry Potter they were quick reads. As for the Lord of the Rings Ralph Bakshi should have finished his animated version. He just wasted so much time on the battle scene that where not that important to the story.Plus the left out the best character Tom Bombadil from the movie
The hunger games is not meant to be elite or even moderately skilled people fighting, it’s intended to be hapless children being killed and killing for the amusement of the general public. You don’t “qualify” for the hunger games.
I should acknowledge that Shirley Jackson’s short story was just that – and did not offer or reward a winner. It was a straightforward lottery to select a victim to be stoned.
I threw it in because of the aspect of the drawing – and because when the GGE is fully in place, there won’t be any winners among the unwashed masses. Those would be us, pretty much.
I am totally speaking from ignorance here, I had no desire to see the movie, the wife and kids gave it about a 3 out of 5. I am thinking it is slanted more towards a woman’s point of view, but cannot say anything definitive as I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve got better ways to waste 2 hours of my life.
I thought the movie was good though I haven’t seen it there’s two sequels coming plus Taylor Swift’s song Safe and Sound won the Grammy as Best Song from a Motion Picture

To each his own; my whole family loved the movie (and I did read the books; they’re incredible, although I was disappointed with the very end).

The Hunger Games script should have been scrapped. The Lord of The Rings script should have been scrapped over 20 years ago.

At that range, it would be easy to hit the bullseye.

Funny…I didn’t think the male ego during the Stone Ages could stand a female being better at hunting than they were (e.g. Clan of the Cave Bear)… ;)
