I don’t give gift cards and hate to get them. Fees, on both ends, stores that one does not shop at and having to squeeze them into my wallet and remember to use them.
We buy gifts only for the 2 young nieces. The niece and nephews in their 20’s we mail checks. We have convinced siblings, siblings in law and my mom (the entirety of our families) we do not trade gifts as it was stupid. I buy a sweater for my sister at Sears (and am not sure it was not the same one as last year) with the gift card from returning my gift from her last year and she did the same for me. Waste of energy and gasoline. Husband and I buy whatever small things we want during the year and set them aside for gifts. (This year I bought 3 books on Lousia Alcott and one on Henry VII, discounted, and that was my gifts.
