As someone who loved school and was educated as a teacher, I feel the same way. I also feel the urge to buy new “back to school” clothes like sweaters and boots….even though I live in Florida. LOL

I thought I’d miss work when I retired, because I did really enjoy it. But what I found was, I miss the people.

We have five friends who are retired grade school teachers and everyone says they are very happy retired. The last 10 years of service the discipline in the schools and the backup by the parents almost totally disappeared. Not to mention the cutbacks on benefits.

With Ben around, she is still teaching. It’s just that the student is slow to learn.

Can’t speak as, or for retired teachers, but I can say, FOOTBALL! I’m with Ben on this one, especially NFL football.

Husband hated school. He hated the fall as a result. He stuck with it enough to get a Masters degree and part of a doctorate.

So, he gets a job – it is a children’s mental health program that is also a school and is on a school year, so he still dreads the fall as school is starting – not that he does not like his job, it just reminds him of going back to school and how he hated it.

He finally ends up as executive director of the agency, so he is basically the principal (although not techincially same) and he still hated every fall and the kids coming back (and the kids got less than a month off for the summer, not a normal school summer vacation.

He quit his job around 10 years ago due to bad burn out in coping with two state agencies – mental health and education – which could not agree on anything – if one said “do this”,the other agency than came in and said “why are you doing this – you are not allowed to do it.” But still as soon as school supplies show up in stores, he starts to get to get upset about school starting again.
