it isn’t the individual computer that becomes sentient. It is the internet that becomes self aware. Not a good thing, depending on who’s science fiction you read.
I had a student in adult computer class who complained the computers kept doing what she told them to do instead of what she WANTED them to do… I didn’t know how to respond to that. (nicely)
Not sure why, but many people could relate better to their computer if they thought if were being malevolent rather than malfunctioning at random. I think it’s a human thing. :)
