Usually, the people who firmly believe that you should forgive and forget are the very same people who did you wrong in the first place, and they want to be forgiven and what they did to be forgotten so that they can screw you over again.

Oh! Hello, Alex. We were just talking about you :-þ

Hopefully Betty’s response is a two-word response in which the first word starts with an “F” and the second word starts with a “Y”.

I’d love to see this storyline eventually result in Alex getting fired…Let’s see her take on it then.

@rsketchI would have agreed somewhat with you until I saw how Alex behaved today. Why doesn’t she see how much she hurt Betty?

Betty….go ahead and work with her, professionally only, and document EVERYTHING you do via clear notes and e mail to reduce Alex’s chance to steal your work.

Alex may have had to fire Betty but she didn’t act at all sorry about it. She has been b*tchy about it ever since. Now she makes a comment like this? She ought to say, “I know you’re still having bad feelings about my firing you Betty but I had no choice. I hope someday you can forgive me. But we need to work together on this project. Can we put the other thing aside and do that?”

You think a response that begins with "Kiss my " would be appropriate?

Granted that Alex was the designated ax person. She didn’t have to be so smarmy in the way she fired Betty.

    Nope. In fact, I’m Canadian.

I’ve been downsized myself, and while it was hardly the most fun time I’ve ever had, I hold no grudge against the person who was told to make the decision and to break the news to the five or six of us he had to let go on the same day. I’ve seen him since, and we were able to have a good conversation.

I don’t think Alex was smarmy at all in breaking the news to Betty. I think she was feeling uncomfortable and horrible, but she probably had faith in their friendship and figured it would survive. She reached out to Betty right away, even offering her a lift home, but Betty’s the one who decided the friendship was over. Alex is hurt.

Betty has been acting like a butthurt princess. I agree with Alex. If you can’t handle it, you should not have been working under a friend.

Best possible scenario, the deal goes great for Betty’s new company. Her old company, not so much, and Alex gets fired.
