I get that Betty is trying to teach her son a valuable lesson about saving money, but I don’t think that should come at the expense of the most valuable lesson of all: the lesson that you are always the best you can be when you are being yourself. Smart Betty. Include the entire family in your plan to save. And present it to you son as needing his help. Everyone learns about finances and budgeting. Everyone learns how to save. Some will be better than others. .Betty is doing good.
