Sorry Alexa, there’s no stem on the type of faucet they have. It’s not a gate valve. Try asking Siri.
And what exact size replacement washer did Bub go to get?
That’s one way to motivate a man. :D
Ectually, fixing that sort of a faucet is slightly more involved, Alexa…
And then there’s my bathroom faucets, which require a $50 tool to remove the retaining nut for the cartridge.
I’ve always lived in old places… drips were a fact of life.
I learned long ago to fix them myself.
Way before computers… I think I first learned to change a washer from a library book.
All it took was couple of box wrenches and a screwdriver.
“Exact replacement washer?”
Come on… there aren’t that many kinds, for old sinks.
I’d just get a cheap package of assorted ones… you usually got some that would work.
Somebody taught me to buy tapered ones… better yet.
I remember I bought one of those illustrated how-to guides from the hardware store, when I needed a bit more advice…
It probably cost a dollar fifty.
First came o-rings…
But then at some point it said to buy a re-seating tool, which never worked right
Happily, I store clerks eventually showed me that you could just buy a new seat… and even a new stem… if you had to ….. Yay!
I did fine for years….
I even fixed my Dad’s bathroom faucet once, on a visit.
He didn’t know how, and I did!
It was Sunday, and he was grumbling cos he couldn’t get a plumber, so I had him take me to the hardware store.
LOL
Then over the years, various helpful men in my life… like an ex boyfriend, then a friend’s husband, who still sometimes fixes things for me…
took it upon themselves to bring me up to date.
They put in stuff that needs complete replacing if it fails,
which I can’t do myself, using tools I don’t have.
Drips are admittedly is less frequent, but if I do get one,
I can’t do anything except call for help.
One kitchen tap did supposedly have a replaceable “cartridge”…
but it wasn’t made any more a couple of years later.
I asked the last person who “fixed” my bathroom faucet….
by replacing the whole thing, again, of course…
to PLEASE get one with a regular stem and a washer.
He just laughed.
AI will be truly helpful when it will do the job itself without nagging.

Bub should go golfing, if he does it he will be accused of being condescending. Let Betty do it. If it done when he gets home congratulate her on a job well done. If she finds there were bigger problems just smile and get your tools.
“Hulk, SMASH!”
Home hubbies, probably.
