And you’re right — it wouldn’t make for a very interesting comic strip to have the main character get 100 on every test!Charles Schulz of “Peanuts” was always asked why he never let Charlie Brown win at anything, and he always said: “because losing is funnier than winning.”

I spent the night before a world history test rereading the 4 chapters being covered. I received a B. Never put that much into history again. Settled for my C.

Here’s my guess at the twist. He will get a 100 on the test, but the teacher will accuse him of cheating, because how could Nate possibly do so much better than usual?

Or the end result is just that it will infuriate Gina that he beat her.

In Peanuts Charlie Brown never kicks the football because Lucy never holds the ball. One day Linus held the ball. Lucy asked Linus Did Charlie Brown kick it? Linus said You will never know.I want to know if Charlie Brown ever kicked that football…

To think I was going to blow by the comments to catch up on my reading since I was gone for a week, only to find the artist himself has been taking part in the comments. Lincoln, I have been a fan of this strip for a very long time now, ever since it first appeared in the local newspaper. Thanks for the fun daily read of a look back into 6th grade. Before Wimpy Kid there was Lincoln Peirce with Big Nate.Am I remembering correctly that the Nate-drawn panels, you know- when he should be doing school-work…, that appear periodically (line drawings on a notebook background) were drawn by your own child, at least originally?

This comic strip rules. Thanks for being a part of our comments, Lincoln! I definitely idolized comic artists as a young kid and have been following Big Nate in the Chicago Tribune/Daily Herald for years. It rocks out. Keep up the good work!!

Nate will probably turn out fine provided the angst ridden years die out during his 20s.

You are much too kind to mention my strip in the same breath with those others. George Herriman, Walt Kelly, and Bill Watterson are creative geniuses. When talking about cartoonists, I often compare them to theoretical physicists. Guys like Herriman, Kelly, and Watterson are Einsteins. And, of course, not everyone can be Einstein. But theoretical physics still needs to be taught, and there are thousands of talented, capable physicists out there teaching it. So that’s how I think of myself: I’m not Einstein, but I’m a good, solid physicist. Teaching at a college somewhere. Hoping to get tenure.

Well, Sallymargaret, you clearly are a real comics historian, which I appreciate. I love comics from the “Golden Age” of the 20’s and 30’s, even though that was way before my time. I’m a huge fan of all the strips you’ve mentioned, along with a personal favorite of mine, “Polly And Her Pals.” And Popeye is probably my all-time favorite comic strip characer.

If only this were just a joke. I’ve known plenty of students smart enough to significantly improve their grades after I guide them through just ONE good study session. I have a feeling that instead of learning from his experience, Nate will imitate my own kids and just go back to mediocrity because he’s not intrinsically motivated… bleh…

This one is definitely going up on my wall.

Don’t you hate it when somebody tells you to do something, because it make the thing you’re going to do easier, but you’re like “no that doesn’t work” except then when you do it, it turns out the person who told you to do it was right?
