Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for January 21, 2012
Transcript:
This is killing you, isn't it, Gina! I've gone almost a week without getting detention! Only one more day to go! If I make it through tomorrow, I'll win our little bet! It's killing you! Nate, you've been so helpful lately. I thought I'd give you the chance to carry these books to my car! It's killing me.
KEEP IT UP, NATE. KEEP IT UP.
I don’t think Nate is wincing because of the crushing weight of the books he is carrying, he’s wincing because he’s HELPING Mrs. Godfrey. Oh, how he hates her!
But Nate is SHELVING his poor attitude. And like SpigotMan said, if he wins the bet, the 10 dollars from Gina will be sweet, but he will win something more – stronger, braver, more confident and self-respect.
Nate’s pride is taking a beating. But Mrs. Godfrey…. is smiling? In Nate’s company? I’ve never seen that.
And if you think about it…. Gina’s pride is taking a beating, too. And it’s all just because Nate is winning.
One more day to go, and it’s gonna KILL me to wait until Monday to find out what happens.
I wonder….
…Nate will win, then Gina will say “One more week, Nate – double or nothing?”.
We’ll find out on Monday.
